What is happening to the overseas Chinese in all countries as the new pneumonia epidemic spreads all over the world? China Overseas Chinese Network (ID: qiaowangzhongguo) specially launched a series of "Overseas Stays" series of manuscripts, telling the story of the "war epidemic" left by overseas Chinese. In this issue, American Chinese Xiaohe tells us about his left-behind life.

In January 2020, the domestic epidemic began to become serious, and the atmosphere became increasingly tense. I am in South Carolina, USA, and I care about my family in the country, so I pay attention to the number of people diagnosed in the country and the epidemic information every day. In addition to work, it is to see the life under the epidemic recorded by netizens.

Such days lasted for a month or two, the domestic situation slowed down, but the situation in the United States began to become more severe, and the number of diagnoses continued to rise. In some serious epidemic states, technology companies have begun to let employees work from home, and news reports about new coronary pneumonia have increased until "new coronary pneumonia" has become the headline of all media.

In mid-March, I applied to the boss to work at home and went to the supermarket to store food on the day. At that time, no more than five people in the entire supermarket were wearing masks. Later, various states successively promulgated "Home Orders", and the restaurants I frequented were temporarily closed.

After working from home, my life is extremely regular, but it doesn't mean much. The content of the work has not changed much, only the meetings have become online videos. At noon, you can eat while watching a TV show, exercise in the community after work, and then go home to cook the next day.

Weekly purchases are the only opportunity for "relaxation." At the beginning, I bought a bunch of canned food for storage, but now I can still go to the supermarket to buy food every week, so the canned food has not moved. There are many empty meat shelves in the supermarket, there are few varieties, and toilet paper was once completely unavailable.

There are more people wearing masks in the supermarket, but there are still many people who cannot buy masks. So even in mid-April, less than half of the people wearing masks. I once saw a lady wearing a children's mask, which only covered her lips. There is also a couple in their 80s who know that they are a susceptible group, but they are also very worried because they do not have a mask.

So far, more than 4,000 cases have been diagnosed in South Carolina. Over the past week, many people have gathered on the street to protest the "Home Order", and some worry that once production is resumed prematurely, a second outbreak will be inevitable.

Some people say that in this "war epidemic", China played the first half, foreign countries played the second half, and overseas Chinese played the whole game. I don't know what will happen in the future, I just hope that the whole world can fight the epidemic together and everyone is safe and sound.
