China announced yesterday that it will pay an additional 30 million dollars (28 million euros) to the World Health Organization, to support it in its efforts to combat the Coronavirus around the world, days after the United States suspended its financial contribution to the organization. This comes as European Union leaders meet at a video summit dedicated to finding solutions that will lift European countries out of the stagnation caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, and the day after the World Health Organization warned that the fight against the emerging coronavirus would be long-term, noting the danger of rushing to isolate.

In detail, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying wrote on her Twitter account: "China has decided to donate an additional 30 million dollars to the World Health Organization to support its global fight against the Corona virus, especially strengthening health systems in countries." She added that this sum "will be used to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic, and to support the development of health systems in developing countries."

She noted that "China was already donating $ 20 million in cash to the organization on March 11".

"At this crucial time, the support of the World Health Organization is one of pluralism and global solidarity," she added.

On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said yesterday that Australia's call for an independent investigation into the outbreak of the emerging Corona Virus pandemic is a political maneuver, and it must stop its intellectual bias.

It should be noted that US President Donald Trump had ordered the funding of the World Health Organization to be halted, given that he was partially responsible for the size of the coronavirus-related deaths in his country, and said that the United Nations had relied excessively on information from China.

Meanwhile, European leaders appear divided during the video summit, which was devoted to finding solutions that would take European countries out of the stagnation caused by the “Corona” outbreak, about the solution they should adopt that would compel them to postpone any important decision.

The economic damage to isolation measures continues to worsen on the continent most affected by the epidemic in the world, with more than 112,000 deaths from the virus out of 180,000, which is the total deaths in the world since the virus first appeared in China last December.

In an attempt to restart economic activity, several European countries have begun to gradually reduce the isolation measures imposed on the population since last month.

In Germany, food stores, bookstores, car agencies, and most shops with no more than 800 square meters, opened their doors Monday.

Austria, Norway and Denmark have also begun to reduce isolation measures, while retaining some rules of “social separation”.

Italy, France, Switzerland, Finland, and Romania are also preparing to cut the stone with caution.

"No one makes mistakes, we have a long way ahead," WHO Director-General Tidros Adhanom Gebresos said on Wednesday at a press conference. This virus will be with us for a long time. ”He pointed out that some countries want to return to normal life, but the next normal life will not be the same as before“ it will be a normal situation of a new type. ”
