Discussion is now underway between SVT and Halmstad Municipality to possibly hold some individual SM competitions at the end of August. But what sports or if it gets rid of is still unclear. The condition is that the arrangement should not contravene the guidelines of the Public Health Authority.

"Really explored all possibilities"

Ann Johansson at Destination Halmstad, who has been involved in the planning of the event, says the following about the decision:

- We have really explored all possibilities, but have come to the conclusion that one cannot hold a good event and at the same time adhere to the guidelines. You want it to be a product to be proud of and we feel that it will not really be then.

Jonas Bergman (M), chairman of the local council in Halmstad, understands the decision but still thinks it is regrettable:

- It is an important event for Halmstad and we were so happy when we were awarded this. It's great both for the city's associations but also for the hospitality industry of course, he says.

Do not postpone

The planning of the event has already cost the municipality some money.

- I do not know exactly how much has been used. But of course some costs have been worked up in the form of personnel and finding and fixing facilities for the various competitions.

The sports weeks for 2021 and 2022 will be held in Linköping and Umeå respectively. It is not clear if they will be affected by the canceled event in Halmstad.

- I hope that the SM week can come back to Halmstad later on, says Jonas Bergman.
