Because of the corona pandemic, travel has largely stopped altogether. This means that all consumption of tourists falls away - something that can have major consequences for the tourism industry. Visit Östergötland says that they themselves have not yet received such figures. But confirms that there is a concern.

- Of course, you cannot travel between countries as before and it is clear that this will have an impact. But the peak season for foreign tourists in Östergötland actually starts in July and, according to calculations, accounts for only ten percent of tourism in the county, says Hanna Nord, a strategist at Visitöstergötland.

"Much is canceled"

According to her, a lot is uncertain right now when it comes to summer for the visitor industry in Östergötland.

- It may be that the peak is shifted or there will be no peak at all this year, it would be boring. But people in the industry say that, for example, several German bus groups are not yet booked. Much is canceled, but not all, says Hanna Nord.

According to the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Gotland County could lose about SEK 42 million in consumption by foreign tourists.
