It is the third night in a row that garbage and vehicle fires have been observed in several municipalities in the Lille metropolitan area. Without minimizing the facts, it should however be put into perspective, even if the few videos circulating on social networks tend to make the sauce go up.
Since Sunday evening, in Lille and in seven nearby municipalities, several vehicles have been burnt on purpose. To these car lights must be added a number of litter fires and garbage containers placed on the public highway. However, the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the North wants to clarify things: "Of the twelve cars burned in the night from Monday to Tuesday, six were by propagation. Admittedly, the account remains of twelve, but it is all the same not all the same ”, one explains to 20 Minutes .
Throwing objects but no ambush
There was, however, a notable difference between the incidents of the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and those of the previous nights: “In Roubaix and Hem, the police and firefighters indeed wiped a few jets of objects. But to my knowledge, there were no injuries, "said a police source. The authorities refuse to speak of ambushes for the police and firefighters while acknowledging the presence of small gatherings near the fires in Hem. An alleged arsonist was also arrested last night in the Trois Ponts district, in Roubaix. Another was arrested in Lille south on the night of Sunday to Monday.
What is the cause of this series of incidents? In the columns of our colleagues from La Voix du Nord , a firefighter mentioned a possible link with the events in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, in the Paris region. For the North DDSP, nothing currently allows to relate the facts. “Because of the confinement, there are a lot more police on the ground, and especially in sensitive neighborhoods where we find that people are more often outside. In fact, it hinders traffic, our presence is disturbing, ”says a police source.
