Covid-19: Trump announces temporary suspension of immigration to the United States

Faced with the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemic, the American president explained wanting to "protect the jobs" of the Americans.

"  In light of the attack on the invisible enemy, and faced with the need to protect the jobs of our great American citizens, I will sign a presidential decree to temporarily suspend immigration to the United States,  " tweeted Donald. Trump on Monday.

The American president, whose immigration limitation is one of the campaign themes, did not give more details on how he intends to apply this decision and for how long. As early as January, he had restricted travel to China, where the new virus appeared in December, before banning travel between the United States and most European countries in mid-March.

Over 42,000 dead

The coronavirus, which Donald Trump calls "  invisible enemy  ", has already killed more than 42,000 people in the country, where 766,660 cases have been recorded. Some 22 million Americans have also lost their jobs due to the economic consequences of the epidemic.

In recent days, the country has been on the brink of schizophrenia, between measures announced by the states to try to stem the epidemic and a president, impatient to revive the economy , who did not hesitate to support on Twitter the few Americans who in some states are demonstrating for the lifting of containment .
