This Monday evening, 37 deaths among the 109 residents of a nursing home in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes) were attributable to Covid-19. Deaths that could have been avoided? Investigations continue around the La Riviera nursing home. The prosecutor of the Republic of Grasse said on Monday in a press release that the current investigation aims in particular to "identify possible violations of security and prudence obligations" and "to establish a relationship with the deaths observed".

For more than a fortnight, and after several deaths linked to the new coronavirus since March 20, families have expressed doubts about the proper management of this epidemic within this establishment managed by the Korian group. Several have already alerted the justice system.

A collective complaint from families and another from the town hall

Prosecutor Fabien Atzori said that "the preliminary investigation into the counts of manslaughter and failure to assist people at risk" was opened following the receipt of a first complaint on April 2. Three others were tabled between this date and April 10. The public prosecutor's office of Grasse was also seized by the mayor of Mougins on April 14 and a collective complaint concerning four families was received the following day.

Since then, the Korian group and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Paca have been singled out and put forward their arguments. For the first, the ARS would have "been slow to take stock of the situation". The organization says it asked the establishment to organize itself after the first death. An ARS investigation was organized on site in early April.
