by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 20 April 2020An agreement for the formation of a coalition government has been reached in Israel by the parties of the outgoing premier, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the opposition leader, former chief of staff, Benny Gantz. To sign the note the two parties, Likud and Blue and White.

Netanyahu and Gantz met for a second time during the day, reaching an agreement for the formation of a 'national emergency government'.

Israeli media reported that the cartel covers a three-year period. During this period Netanyahu will take up the post of prime minister for the first 18 months. Later Gantz will become prime minister.

The deal puts an end to months of political paralysis and avoids what would have been the fourth return to the polls for Israeli citizens.

According to reports from the Israeli press, in the first 18 months of the Netanyahu-led government, Gantz will be Defense Minister while n. 2 in his party, Gabi Ashkenazi, will lead diplomacy. There will be no change to the controversial nation-state law.

Yair Lapid, a former ally of Gantz in the elections, who condemned the agreement, was very harsh: "So the compromise on the Judicial Appointments Commission is that Bibi (Benjamin Netanyahu's nickname, ed) chooses all his representatives. Gantz and Ashkenazi have agreed to allow the offender to indicate the judges who will judge him on his issues, "stressed the leader of Yesh Atid, referring to the charges for corruption, fraud and abuse of trust against Netanyahu in three cases.
