This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to a statement by the director of the emergency response department of the State Emergency Situations Service Volodymyr Demchuk.

According to him, as of the morning of April 20, in the Chernobyl zone it was possible to localize one out of four fires.

“The most difficult fire site is located near the village of Rudki, where all possible measures are being taken to prevent the transfer of fire to the territory of the Republic of Belarus,” he said.

As noted by Demchuk, in total about 1300 people and 325 pieces of equipment were involved in the elimination of fires in the exclusion zone.

On April 4, it was reported that a forest fire had begun in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. On the 14th, Ukrainian firefighters managed to eliminate the fire.

At the same time, Ukrainian media later indicated that the wind had blown up new fires in the Chernobyl zone.
