April 19, 2020 According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths in Europe has exceeded 100 thousand. Nearly two thirds of the world's victims, ours is the continent most affected by the pandemic. Italy with over 23,000 and Spain with more than 20,000 are the European countries with the highest number of victims. 

In Spain, one of the most affected countries, the number of deaths decreases: 410 today. Yesterday there were 565. The total number of victims reaches 20,453. There are 195,944 cases. Yesterday there were 191,726.

Premier Pedro Sanchez has decided to extend the lockdown measures until 9 May. The announcement came after the 20,000 victims had passed. 

In Germany yesterday coronavirus cases were just under 140 thousand - 139,925 - while the victims were 4,249. This is what emerges from a calculation made by the Dpa on the basis of the figures provided by the authorities of the 16 laender. 

Coronavirus deaths in France have exceeded 19,000 since the beginning of the epidemic, (data from yesterday) counting hospitals, hospices and institutions for the disabled. Last night the deaths - the Health Directorate had announced - totaled 19,323, with an increase of 642 units.

 Another 888 people died in hospitals in the  United Kingdom after getting infected with the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 15,464. The Health Department of London reported yesterday, while confirmed infections increased by 5,525 in one day to 114,217, out of a total of 357,023 people tested.
