Coronavirus: South African township residents hungry for containment - 20 Minutes

Clashes with the police and looting. In recent days, guerrilla scenes have taken place in several poor neighborhoods in South Africa. Since the confinement of the country on March 26, in an attempt to contain the coronavirus epidemic, the inhabitants of certain slums and townships have been crying out for starvation. To the loss of their jobs and income is added a too scarce supply of food, supposed to be provided by the State.

During the first week of April, 48,441 packages of food were delivered. But many South Africans are slow to receive them, as is the case in the Cape region, where residents burned tires and attacked police, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas.

South Africa is the country of sub-Saharan Africa most affected by Covid-19 with nearly 2,800 cases of infection, including fifty deaths.
