For three years, Patrik Johansson's 83-year-old father has lived in a nursing and care home in Uppsala. Since a month ago, like all other elderly activities in the municipality, there has been a prohibition on visits. During the isolation, the father became ill with all symptoms of covid-19.

- It is clear that you are worried. He is a dementia, which in itself is a deadly disease, but is entitled to a dignified death. I don't want him to feel alone, says Patrik Johansson.

Several dead at the residence

According to documents that SVT took note of, several corona-infected persons at the residence have died in covid-19. Staff have also fallen ill, one of them with confirmed covid-19, according to the accommodation.

It must have been "a struggle" with protective equipment, especially when it comes to mouthguards and aprons, but now the accommodation should be in phase.

"What was done to them?"

Patrik Johansson is very critical that decision-makers have not better protected the elderly who cannot protect themselves.

- It's empty words. Time and time again you are told that it is devastating if the virus enters the homes of the elderly. And now? We have ten dead here in Uppsala, many infected. What was done to them?

As a relative, Patrik Johansson is also asking that people with suspected infection not be tested, like his father, which in practice means that in case of death they are not visible in the National Health Authority's daily statistics on deceased in covid-19.

- We live in uncertainty, will dad die in covid-19 or is he this percentage that shows all the symptoms but is not infected? Imagine the darkness that exists among the dead when not all are tested, he says.

Hoffstedt (S): "Understand relatives' concerns"

The Elderly Committee Chair Caroline Hoffstedt (S) says that the municipality does everything to protect the municipality's elderly.

- I really understand relatives' concerns, this is an infectious virus. We continue to take steps to minimize the spread of infection. At an early stage, we made a decision to ban all accommodation and that all staff with the smallest symptoms would stay home, ”she says.

- We have now also commissioned new measures.
