The United States recorded a new dark record on Wednesday with nearly 2,600 additional deaths from the new coronavirus in 24 hours, the heaviest daily toll recorded by a country, according to the count of Johns Hopkins University.

The United States deplored 2,569 deaths between 8:30 p.m. local Wednesday and the day before at the same time, according to university figures continuously updated. This brings the American death toll to 28,326 dead in total. The previous record for the number of deaths over a day (2,228) was recorded the day before.

"The battle continues but the data suggests that across the country, we have passed the peak of new cases," said the American president during his daily press conference, promising to reveal this Thursday his tracks for deconfinement.

The United States has had the largest number of officially declared cases since the end of March, with more than 637,000 infections diagnosed. About 3.2 million tests have been performed in the country.
