"We can not yet know" the dates of the Tour of Spain cycling, forced to change dates because of the postponement of the Tour de France, said the director of the Spanish loop Javier Guillén in a video Wednesday.

"Today, we cannot yet know when exactly the Giro or the Vuelta will start and end," said Guillén after the press release from the International Cycling Union (UCI) announcing the postponement of the Tour de France.

The UCI indicated on Wednesday that the Tour de France, originally scheduled from June 27 to July 19, was postponed due to the pandemic of new coronavirus, and that it would therefore start on August 29 in Nice and end on September 20 in Paris.

"In the press release, the UCI declared that the Giro and the Vuelta would come after the Tour de France. Thus, the Giro and the Vuelta (initially scheduled from August 14 to September 6) will have to be organized in the fall," said the director of the Spanish race.

"The panorama (of the season) has become much clearer (after the announcement of the UCI). Now, the only thing we are waiting for and want is that before May 15, we will be able to know the full cycling season schedule from August 1, "asked Guillén.

"Right now, we are talking to everyone in the cycling world to see how we can organize the remaining races," concluded the director of the Vuelta.

The postponement of the Tour de France had become inevitable since French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the confinement was going to be extended until May 11 in France and that no major public event could take place before mid-July.
