Donald Trump's daily press conference on the coronal situation in the United States has increasingly evolved into campaign meetings for the president. But Monday's press conference at the White House also struck experienced reporters with amazement.

Instead of a report on the work against covid-19, a several-minute video was shown praising Trump's actions in the corona crisis, which according to the video has saved the lives of "maybe hundreds of thousands" of Americans.

An attack on the media

The video began with the statement: "Media played down the risk from the beginning", illustrated with four short clips from various news broadcasts in late January and early February.

Then followed the statement "At the same time the President took decisive action" illustrated with solemn music and clips on Donald Trump as he announces, among other things, national news mode and closes the border for flights from Europe. The clips are from the second week in March, ie more than a month later than the news clips.

"Pure propaganda"

Several broadcasters interrupted their broadcasts of the press conference in protest as the video began.

- It wasn't a campaign video, it was pure propaganda sent at the taxpayer's expense. He has every right to defend his decisions, but I've never been to anything like it, says CNN news anchor John King.

"The problem is that the press is not monitoring the efforts as they should," Trump replied when asked why he focuses more on the media than on the fight against the corona virus.

In the United States, on Tuesday morning, the reported death toll in the country has risen to over 23,500 people. Donald Trump was criticized for his actions at the beginning of the corona crisis, when he was considered to downplay the seriousness of the virus.
