Taiwan youth unemployment rate may reach 14% in July

Taiwan Daily News, April 13 According to Taiwan's "China Times", today, the Nationalist "Legislative Yuan" Lin Yihua pointed out in a question in the Taiwanese legislature that under the impact of the new crown epidemic, Taiwan's entire industry fell into a downturn and the demand for manpower decreased. Graduate employment this year will be very difficult. In July last year, the unemployment rate of Taiwan ’s 20 to 24 years old was 13.05%, and she was very worried that it would exceed 14% this year.

Wan Meiling, a "legislator" of the Kuomintang, said that there were 287,900 graduates of post-secondary institutions and masters in Taiwan this year. For them, the situation of "unemployment after graduation" will be more obvious than in the past.

Chen Shichang, the leader of the Taiwan Labor Force Development Agency, responded that according to statistics, about 50% of Taiwan ’s fresh graduates have difficulty in finding employment. After deducting those who go on to study and leave Taiwan, it is expected to assist 60,000 graduates in employment this year.

Wan Meiling believes that only 60,000 fresh graduates are employed, which is too little, and the quota should be expanded. In addition, the salary of fresh graduates entering the workplace should not be less than 30,000 yuan (NTD, the same below), and Enterprises cannot fire them for no reason after one year of appointment.
