The Turkish presidency said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan rejected the resignation of Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu, who announced that he was responsible for the hastily imposed curfew decision to combat the spread of the Coruna virus.

"The President of the Interior Ministry has not accepted the resignation of our Minister of Interior, and he will continue to carry out his duties," the presidential press office said Sunday evening.

The minister had announced earlier on Twitter that he had resigned, taking responsibility for the curfew imposed in 31 Turkish cities during the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

"Despite its limited time, the incidents that occurred before the curfew was enforced are not what is appropriate for the optimal management of the epidemic," said Sweilo.

He added that the ban was issued in good faith and aimed to slow the spread of the new Corona virus in the country.

The Turkish Ministry of the Interior announced last Friday, at ten o'clock at night local time, that it will impose a curfew starting from midnight the same night, and for two days.

Immediately after the ban was announced, many residents rushed to buy food, and quarrels broke out in front of shops. The Minister of the Interior was criticized over social networks, as some blamed him for what happened, calling for his resignation.

It is noteworthy that the number of deaths from corona virus infection in Turkey exceeded 1100 people, while the number of infected people exceeded 50 thousand since the diagnosis of the first infection in the country just over a month ago.
