The representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, Dr. John Jabbour, revealed today, Monday, that 13% of the Corona virus infections in Egypt are health workers.

Jabour said, in a press conference in Cairo today and was reported by the Egyptian TV, that the death rate due to the virus in Egypt is 6.7%.

He added that this ratio is under study to determine the main causes, appreciating the Egyptian efforts made in confronting the Corona crisis.

He said: "Since the beginning of the crisis, Egypt has seriously dealt with this pandemic, as all rapid response teams in all governorates have been activated to monitor positive cases, and follow contacts with irrespective of their geographical distribution, and adopt a gradual methodology through the application of containment procedures, including detection of cases, isolation and treatment, and tracking Contacts, as well as initiating measures to limit the spread of the virus, which include the closure of schools and crossing points, and preventing crowding and crowding, among others.

Jabour stressed that in all these stages, the World Health Organization worked alongside the Ministry of Health and Population, pointing to some of the organization's technical support to Egypt in many areas to confront the pandemic.

He pointed out that Egypt is one of the first 4 countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region that received laboratory reagents for "Covid-19", in addition to providing training packages for infection control and control in the pandemic preparedness and response stages.

He added that the number of cases in Egypt reached 2065 cases diagnosed with Corona virus, 159 deaths, and 447 cases were cured and discharged from the hospital.

He said that Egypt, like any country, faces many challenges, the most important of which is coordination between all sectors concerned with health to enhance the methodology for responding to the Corona virus and the optimal exploitation of resources at the state level, and dealing with stigma and discrimination against patients and especially medical staff, which constitutes a burden on the health system in addition to what He faces challenges.

He added: "We, as the World Health Organization, are working closely with the Ministry of Health and Population to face these challenges so that the state and solidarity can overcome this crisis."
