A Mexican journalist, Victor Fernando Alvarez, who has been missing for more than a week in the south of the country, was found dead, the prosecution announced on Saturday.

After analyzes, the human remains found in the famous seaside resort of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero, correspond to those of "Victor Fernando, disappeared on April 2," the public prosecutor said in a statement.

He is the second journalist killed since the beginning of the year in Mexico, one of the most dangerous countries to exercise the profession of reporter. In late March, journalist Maria Elena Ferral was shot dead in the state of Veracruz (east).

More than 100 journalists have been murdered in Mexico since 2000.

In 2019, ten reporters were killed in this country, according to a count by the NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
