April 12, 2020 The celebration of Easter Mass by Pope Francis is underway in an empty Saint Peter's due to the coronavirus emergency. The Pontiff presides over the liturgy, from the Altar of the Chair. During the celebration, for the ongoing health emergency, the "Resurrexit" rite is omitted.

A long, infinite minute of silence replaced the homily during the Easter mass celebrated
by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, at the Altar of the Chair, without faithful for the emergency related to the infection of the coronavirus. The Pope, before the traditional Urbi blessing
et Orbi 'at the end of the Eucharistic celebration, he will address his' Easter Message' to all the faithful.

Once the Easter mass is finished, at 12.00, from the gates of the confession of the Vatican basilica - therefore not from the central loggia, as was usually the case, the pontiff will address the Easter message to the faithful who listen to him through radio and television. After the announcement of the granting of the indulgence given by cardinal Angelo Comastri, archpriest of the basilica of San Pietro, the Pope gives the blessing "Urbi et Orbi".
