China News Agency, United Nations, April 9th—The UN Security Council held a video conference on the issue of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic on the 9th. Hearing from the UN Secretary General Guterres ’announcement, Zhang Jun, China ’s permanent representative to the UN, attended the meeting and made a speech.

Zhang Jun said that the New Coronary Pneumonia epidemic is a common test for governments, the United Nations and the international community. China appreciates the leadership and coordination role played by the United Nations and the World Health Organization in combating the epidemic, Secretary-General Guterres ’s launch of the Global Ceasefire Initiative, the launch of the Global Humanitarian Response Plan, and the publication of the “Socioeconomic Impacts of Coping with the New Coronary Pneumonia Outbreak” report The international community unites and cooperates to respond to the epidemic.

Zhang Jun pointed out that China actively supports the efforts of the United Nations to deal with the epidemic. During its presidency of the Security Council in March, China paid close attention to the impact of the epidemic on maintaining international peace and security and played a constructive role. The Security Council issued a number of presidential media comments, which fully reflected the close attention to the epidemic. China also supports and mentions the draft resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on solidarity against the epidemic, and participates in the "Group of 77 plus China" statement, calling for greater attention and investment in developing countries. China hopes that the international community will act and actively respond to the call of the United Nations to jointly fight the epidemic.

Zhang Jun emphasized that China supports the global ceasefire initiative proposed by Secretary-General Guterres and hopes that all parties to the conflict will actively support and implement this initiative. The Security Council should push the parties to the conflict to stop hostilities, put the people ’s health and life safety first, put aside their differences, lay down their weapons, stop the conflict, buy time for the prevention and control of the epidemic, open up space for cooperation, and create conditions for political settlement of disputes. The Security Council should support the Secretary-General ’s Global Humanitarian Response Plan and call on all countries to increase resources and provide anti-epidemic support to countries in conflict and least developed countries. Promote the countries concerned to respond to the Secretary-General ’s appeal, lift unilateral sanctions, and reduce the negative impact on the humanitarian situation. The Security Council should strengthen the safety and security of peacekeepers, promote the implementation of Resolution 2518, improve medical support for peacekeepers, and also provide assistance within its capacity for the country concerned to fight the epidemic.

Zhang Jun said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has achieved important results in response to the epidemic. China will do its utmost to deal with the rebound risk of the epidemic situation and the challenges of external imports, while doing its utmost to support other countries' anti-epidemic efforts. The New Coronary Pneumonia epidemic once again shows that human beings are a community of fate, and China's experience in fighting against epidemics also shows that the epidemic can be overcome. In the face of global challenges, taking neighbors as the beggars and transferring responsibilities is a dead end. Unity, cooperation and mutual help are the fundamental means. We should resolutely oppose any use of the epidemic to engage in stigmatization and politicization. (Finish)
