The entire textile sector in the region will be invited to mobilize in the coming weeks. This Thursday evening, in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, the metropolis of Lyon announced that during "deconfinement, which will be gradual, 2 million reusable cloth masks will be made available to residents".

These masks will be "also intended for associations, the self-employed, traders, artisans and very small businesses to enable them to restart or continue their activity in good financial conditions", add the services of David Kimelfeld in a press release.

To build up this considerable stock of masks, the community has already placed direct orders with industrialists in the region and the mainland (textile-silk-fashion sector) to produce washable and reusable Afnor standard masks .

Citizen and solidarity initiatives welcome

In addition, the metropolis "will also support the establishment of collectives of micro-production units for masks, like the Village des Créateurs in Lyon, and numerous sewing workshops which disrupt their production during this exceptional period", she adds.

Also in contact with the agglomeration schools and the Unitex textile industry union, the city also counts on citizen and solidarity initiatives that it undertakes to support by providing them with raw materials. To benefit from it, small skilful hands who wish to participate in this collective effort are invited to go to the dedicated platform.
