While the 2020 sports year is sorely turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic and by the containment measures taken in March, it is good to project ourselves on the summer deadlines which should prove - hopefully - less disrupted. With, in apotheosis, the Olympic fortnight of Tokyo from July 24 to August 9, last deadline before the long-awaited big party of Paris 2024. In Japan, the French delegation will arrive as always with beautiful ambitions of titles. The performances of Teddy Riner, Kevin Mayer, Renaud Lavillenie, Florent Manaudou, Julian Alaphilippe or Thibaut Pinot will inevitably be the most scrutinized by the media and the public, but these stars of French sport should not forget other chances of medals more discreet, in a discipline less publicized than athletics, swimming, judo or cycling. The Olympic sailing events, for example, are only really talked about once every four years, yet they are very regularly bringing good news for the French delegation and the French supporters. We think of the windsurfer Finistère Faustine Merret, Olympic champion in Athens in 2004, or more recently his heiress, Charline Picon, also sacred in Rio during the last Olympiad. Two examples for Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz who have only one goal in mind for August 5, the end of their event: first place on the podium, the gold medal and La Marseillaise.
