This past week, the debate has escalated around the municipalities and private healthcare companies' ability to protect the elderly from the corona virus, as new death rates are reported.

Doctor Stefan Amér at the company Family doctors have proposed increased protection for all patient-related care and care - for example protective mask and visor for all patient-related care, regardless of whether the staff or the elderly showed any symptoms. The reasoning is that contagion has managed to enter many homes despite visitor bans and harsh hygiene routines.

Others point out another possibility: that elderly care and home care staff simply go to work even though they are scruffy and should stay home.

"They have no sick pay"

Lars Lindeberg has many years of experience in the home service in the Stockholm area. He sees a great risk that staff conditions contribute to the spread of infection.

- I can't really understand the surprise that it is spreading. We have so poorly trained staff without protective equipment who are also employed by the hour. They have no sick pay, they can't be home if they cough, then they can't afford to pay the rent.

Today Lars Lindeberg works as a care assistant but he has also held several managerial positions. As a former manager, he sees himself as an accomplice to today's situation with the use of hourly work and lack of routines.

- We will have enormous problems. We cannot protect ourselves and those we help. I myself have a mother with home service, and I have called and asked for it to be reduced to as little as possible.
