The American Floyd Mayweather, who hung up the gloves in 2017, sees himself becoming "one of the best coaches in the world", he said Friday, which would allow him to follow in the footsteps of his uncle Roger, died in March.

"I'm starting out as a coach and so far I've only worked with people who have no boxing experience, so we are progressing together," Mayweather wrote in an Instagram message with a video of him working with her 14-year-old nephew.

"But I promise you, I will be one of the best coaches in the world," said the boxer with a perfect record of 50 wins in as many fights.

"With the recent death of my uncle Roger, I felt the urge to help those around me in the same way that they have been there for me throughout my boxing career," says the American, trained for a large part of his career by Roger Mayweather, died in March at the age of 59, and also his father Floyd Sr.

His thinking was also fueled by the confinement of the coronavirus pandemic: "This time when we have to distance ourselves from others has allowed me to think about how I want to bring something into people's lives and help them achieve their goals, "he wrote.

"I want to leave an imprint on those around me and allow them to see their potential."
