A turnaround. The prefect of Seine-et-Marne announced on Thursday that he had canceled the requisition of hunters to monitor the forests of the department.

The requisition had raised strong opposition after being spotted on Thursday by a NextImpact reporter. On March 31, the prefect had prohibited visiting the forests. And the prefecture published on April 3 four orders to requisition certain hunters and gamekeepers, as well as staff of the National Office of Forests (ONF), the French Office for Biodiversity and the Green Space Agency Ile-de-France.

These orders gave hunters the power to "warn and report to law enforcement officials any offense contrary to the provisions of the prefectural order" of March 31. According to Marianne , the controls began on March 28. Nearly sixty hunters were thus charged last weekend to ensure compliance with the confinement.

These hunters are "sworn technicians" of the departmental federation of hunters, as well as "sworn private guards", gamekeepers, said the prefecture on Thursday. According to state services, no report has been made with this device.

The system will therefore not be renewed in the coming weekends. "Their legal bases proving nonetheless fragile, these orders have been withdrawn," concludes the prefecture.
