During Wednesday, the moon was 358,446 kilometers from the Earth's surface, the closest it will be during the year.

The moon is obviously no bigger than it usually is during the super moon - it just looks like that. In astronomy, a "super moon" is defined as a new moon or full moon that occurs when the moon is close to its closest distance to Earth.

It will then give the impression of being at least a tenth larger than usual and also shine stronger than it usually does. When the moon is near the horizon, the impression of a gigantic moon is further enhanced by a vision villa, the so-called lunar illusion.
