Saudi authorities launched a new arrest campaign against nine activists, raising the number of confirmed detainees since September 2017 to 130.

The Prisoners of Conscience Account, which monitors the situation of freedoms in the Kingdom, said that the Saudi authorities took advantage of the world's preoccupation with the Corona crisis to launch a new campaign of arrests, which coincides with the anniversary of the arrests in April in Saudi Arabia last year that also included activists and young academics.

The new wave included Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duwaish, an advocate and professor at the Qaseem University, and media activist Rakan Al-Asiri “against the background of his expression of opinion in old snaps and tweets” according to the account.

It also included the media activist and preacher, the young Mohammed Al-Jedaie, who Al-Account recounted that he has been in arbitrary detention for a week because of his expression of opinion in previous tweets.

In addition to the activists Mansour Al-Rugaiba, Hassan Al-Qarni, Majid Al-Ghamdi and Khaled Al-Shehri who were thrown into prison during this campaign, the account said that there are many other detainees whose names are still unknown, as part of this "fierce" campaign.
