The World Athletics Championships in Eugene (United States), postponed by a year following the postponement to 2021 of the Tokyo Olympics, will take place from July 15 to 24, 2022, announced the International Athletics Federation on Wednesday.
"The World Athletics Council approved the new dates this week after long discussions with stakeholders in the discipline, including the organizers of two other major championships to be held in July-August 2022, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (July 27-August 7, editor's note) and the European multisport championships in Munich (August 11-21, editor's note), "said World Athletics in a statement.
The Athletics Worlds were initially scheduled from August 6 to 15, 2021, a date made impossible by the postponement of one year of the Tokyo Olympics, which will finally take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, due to the Covid pandemic -19.
