A Terrassa Court ordered a 60-year-old neighbor of the town of Spanish nationality to be imprisoned for breaking up confinement on two occasions and approaching the home of his former partner to threaten her, when he had a restraining order for mistreatment. The Mossos d'Esquadra detained the suspect on the afternoon of Monday, March 30 after the ex-couple called 112 as the accused was at the door of his house screaming despite having a restraining order in force that did not allow him to approach less than 1,000 meters. The agents arrested him for a crime of breaking his sentence and the next day he was brought before the court that ordered his release with precautionary measures.

However, hours after that same March 31, the suspect returned to his former partner's home and threatened her with a knife. Her sister called 911 and officers found the woman with a bleeding eyebrow wound and the ex-husband hiding in the yard of the house. In the registry they discovered a pair of scissors. That is why they charged him with another crime of brokenness and one of domestic abuse and the judge ordered his entry into prison.

It was not the only performance of the Mossos for domestic violence during the confinement. This Tuesday they arrested a 40-year-old Moroccan neighbor from Barcelona for allegedly beating his wife in the apartment they shared in the Barceloneta neighborhood. The victim had to take refuge in the house of a neighbor, who called 911, to prevent her husband from continuing to hit her. The agents found the woman with several wounds and on the floor furniture and broken objects scattered on the floor, so they arrested the suspect for a crime of domestic abuse.

The Mossos began implementing a contingency plan within the exceptional measures by the confinement to guarantee the safety of victims of domestic violence and other vulnerable people. In order to better attend to them, an email was made available to the public in addition to the emergency telephone number 112. In addition, they recall that the collaboration between the neighborhood and the family environment of the possible victim is essential to avoid a recurrence of the situation.

In this sense, the services of the Departament de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies of the Generalitat have attended telematically between March 16 and April 5, within the confinement, 2,088 women of whom 119 was the first time they called. They also received 275 communications from children and adolescents, 10 of them for the first time.

The Department offers a free comprehensive care service in addition to detecting cases of gender violence during confinement. This is how 200 users who live with their aggressor are called each day, of which 134 have children. Of the 200 women, 37 are at high risk of abuse. In this confinement, 198 emergency calls received have required on-site aftercare and 103 have had to be referred to social, residential or mental health services.

The residential services of the Department for women and their children at risk of abuse continue to function during confinement so that they can recover. Currently 44 women and 55 children live in the Reception Service and 71 women and 96 children in the Home Replacement Service. Since March 16, 3 women and 3 children have joined the Urgent Care Service since they had to leave their family home due to the risk of abuse.
