Trollhättan's largest employer GKN Aerospace will short-term leave 1,600 from the company on Tuesday next week. It became clear during Wednesday.

Of the employees involved, about 700 are members of the IF Metall club. For them, working hours will be reduced by anything from 20 to 60 percent in the next four months.

- Most members are positive about this and we believe it will be enough for four months. Then we get to see what the company does, says Janne Thorsell, vice chairman of IF Metallklubben at GKN Aerospace.

Uncertain future

According to the company, it is the production of civil aviation that is affected by the layoffs. Space and military production should not be affected.

- The future is uncertain and nobody can say today when it will return. Our hope is that it won't be long before we start as usual again with civilian production, says Martin Thordén, CEO of GKN Aerospace Sweden, in a press release.
