The men, who are in their 20s and 17s, were convicted last year by Varberg district court for four of the car fires on Håsten and for having set fire to a chip shelf in a grocery store. The eldest received five years and nine months' imprisonment and the younger two years closed youth care.
That judgment was appealed to the High Court.
Lack of evidenceThe Court's judgment is that it is not possible to link the two men to the car fires as the investigation cannot show that the men were at any time where the car fires occurred.
Reduces punishmentAs for the fire in the chip shelf at Ica Hajen, the assessment of Varberg's district court was that it was a serious murder fire. Which the court of law to a certain extent agrees with, but that it should be judged as arson and not gross.
The penalty is therefore lowered for the two young men. The oldest is sentenced to two years in prison and the 17-year-old to closed youth care for eight months for arson. They will also pay a damages of SEK 217,000 to the grocery store for the damage after the fire.
