The maximum gap between the salaries of men and women was recorded among specialists in the field of information and communication, where men earn 31.8% more than women.

Among the employees of professional, scientific and technical activities, the gap is 29%.

Also, a noticeable difference between the salaries of men and women is noted in the field of transportation and storage (25.9%), activities in the field of culture, sports, leisure and entertainment (25.8%), as well as in the field of mining (24.1 %).

Rosstat fixes the minimum gap between the salaries of men and women in the field of education - there the salary of male employees is 4.8% higher, as well as in the field of healthcare and social services (11.7%).

Next are construction (gap - 13%), the sphere of water supply, sanitation, waste management and collection (13.7%), the field of electricity, gas, air conditioning (13.8%).

The data are based on the results of sample studies of Rosstat for October 2019 and 2017.

Since 2017, the gender pay gap in Russia has decreased by 0.4%. On average, according to October 2019, the salary of women was 37.8 thousand rubles, men - 52.5 thousand rubles.

According to Aleksandr Veterkov, deputy general director of the job search service and Employment.ru employees, population polls show that among those applying for the same positions, women’s salary request is 15-23% less than men’s, depending on region.

“In general, without a breakdown by occupation, men have a higher total salary. There are two reasons: the first - the number of men in leadership positions is greater. The second - there are areas, such as the mining industry, with fairly high levels of income, but due to physical difficulty, men mainly work there, ”the expert said in an interview with RT.

Previously published survey results showed that more than half (60%) of respondents believe that gender does not matter for career development.

32% of respondents said that it is much more difficult for women to reach career heights, while at the same time, only 8% of respondents think so for men.
