Veteran bullfighter Curro Romero recovers at his home from a malignant tumor in his larynx that has almost cost him his voice. A cancer that, according to the wife of the Pharaoh of Beds, Carmen Tello, "has completely disappeared."

It wasn't a secret, but not much detail had come out either. For months it had been known that Curro Romero had been fighting with some ailment in that throat punished by Malboro and charged with more than eight decades of life. But his last public appearance, yes, without being able to pronounce a single word, had been a bath of tranquility.

Curro collected at the end of last February the appointment of Favorite Son of Andalusia in the theater of the Maestranza in Seville. More than a month has passed since then and it was not yet known that the worst was over.

"The president of the Board had called us the previous Friday," says Carmen Tello, who accompanies her husband at his home, leaving just enough and without receiving visits. "At that time I did n't even know if I was going to be able to pick up the appointment; I had finished radiotherapy the previous Monday and had a very bad time with the side effects of those sessions, rather than with the tumor itself," he says.

The process has been painful but, fortunately, it has been successfully completed. But the ailment had a history: "In December they had already removed a bad tumor that had come out on his right vocal cord," says Carmen Tello. "After Reyes we went to review the malignant nodule, everything was perfect, but Dr. Esteban found something new," adds the wife of the Pharaoh of Camas.

It was a cancer of the larynx, still incipient and superficial. Romero was admitted to the Viamed Santa Ángela de la Cruz in Seville and underwent a biopsy that yielded the most feared result: "A malignant tumor, but it had not yet pierced or expanded. The operation was very aggressive and could lead to loss voice so he decided to do this treatment, "says his wife.

The doctors had warned Curro Romero that time was money and that it was necessary to get down to work as soon as possible. "It started in January and they have given him 38 radiotherapy sessions," adds his wife, who remarks that "he has had a bad time; the side effects have exhausted him," so much so that he even had to interrupt the sessions.

So it was until that Monday in February when he received the call from the President of the Andalusian Government, Juan Manuel Moreno. "I had to convey to him that he thought he could attend but everything would depend on how he was at the time. The tumor had already disappeared and we warned that he was much better. He appeared in the theater, but he could not speak, not even stay at cup, "recalls Tello.

The worst was over and the right-handed veteran was already facing his definitive recovery. "On the 11th (March) we were at the doctor and he is fully recovered. He has begun to recover his voice and is now confined at home, with a little fear of what is happening," says his wife without leaving his side.

"Age is a risk factor but he is very well; he is super strong and although he has lost a few pounds, it is very good for his feet. The tumor in the throat has disappeared. We caught it in time ...", concludes Tello .
