The French Athletics Federation (FFA) announced Tuesday that the suspension of national competitions would be maintained until the end of July due to the coronavirus pandemic, while hoping to organize a season "running from August to end of October".

The French Championships, scheduled for Angers from June 19 to 21, are thus postponed but no new date is given by the FFA, which will act according to whether or not the European Championships still scheduled in Paris from August 25 to 30 , while the Tokyo Olympics were postponed by a year to the summer of 2021.

"All national competitions are suspended until the end of July. If it remains possible that the release of confinement allows a resumption of sporting practice before this date, too rapid a return to competition could result in a large number of injuries", note in a statement the FFA, which met Tuesday its federal office, while its competitions have been suspended since March 13.

"The French Athletics Federation is already working on the development of an action plan to end the health crisis, with the aim of positioning itself as an actor in the recovery of social ties, convinced by the idea that sport can and must contribute to the good restarting of society ", hopes the authority, which announces that it is working on a solidarity fund for clubs.
