It was when the woman was going to sell a mobile phone worth around SEK 9,000 that she discovered that she had received fake banknotes as payment.
"The buyers came and picked up the phone and when they left the place she saw that the banknotes were fake," says the Highland police.
The incident occurred in Nässjö and the suspects must have been two men in the 25-30 age group.
600 percent increaseDuring January to March this year, 707 banknotes were reported as fake to the police in the country. This is an increase of 600 percent compared to the same period last year. And it's all about 500 kroner banknotes.
- We have never received as many cases about counterfeit banknotes as we do now. In today's society, we handle ever-smaller cash, which has led many to become unaccustomed to physical banknotes and simply do not know what a genuine banknote should look or feel like, says Michael Johansson, National Forensic Center (NFC), in a statement.
The vast majority of counterfeit banknotes are discovered at second-hand stores of second-hand goods.
