When Khalil came to Sweden, his goal was to learn Swedish and invest in an education. Although the first few months were tough, he became more motivated to fight when he saw his friends in Syria graduated and got a job. He himself had had to finish his studies because of the escape.

- When I came to Sweden, I didn't know anyone and felt very alone at first, he says.

His father came to Sweden as early as 2014 and helped Khalil escape to Sweden. His mother and siblings came six months after him, the one in connection with the family reunion of the Migration Board. The reason why Khalil couldn't get along with them was because he was over 18 years old. Therefore, he had to flee without the family.

"I was disappointed"

Initially, Khalil was granted a temporary residence permit, while his family was granted permanent residence immediately. For him it was a big disappointment.

- Although I was disappointed, there was no excuse to drop everything, wait and complain. Instead, I volunteered to learn Swedish and checked what was required to enter college, he says.

It was a tough start in Sweden, but now Khalil looks hopefully for the future.

- Next summer I will be graduating in Business Administration and in the future I want to start my own business, he says happily.
