The United States crossed Monday, April 6, the mark of 10,000 deaths in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, according to Johns-Hopkins University, whose count, continuously updated, refers.

Covid-19 killed a total of 10,335 people there, for 347,003 positive cases officially declared. The world's leading power is the third most bereaved country after Italy and Spain.

But as the number of daily deaths begins to drop in some of the most affected European countries, the United States has not yet reached the peak of the crisis and is preparing to experience a moment "like Pearl Harbor" or the September 11 attacks.

The country has noted since the middle of last week more than 1,000 new daily deaths, despite the containment measures that have been gradually implemented, state by state.

New York Governor Extends Containment Measures

The one in New York is the main focus of the American epidemic, with more than 4,750 deaths and 130,000 cases, more than half of which in the city of the same name. The Governor of the State of New York announced Monday to extend until April 29 the containment measures requiring the closure of schools and all non-essential activities.

The American administration has warned that between 100,000 and 240,000 people in total could die from Covid-19 in the United States, depending on the model and compliance with the social distancing guidelines.

The pandemic has killed at least 70,000 people worldwide since the virus appeared in December in China, according to a report by AFP from official sources Monday at 11 am GMT.
