The coronavirus pandemic has killed 8,911 people since early March in France, including 833 more deaths in the past 24 hours, said Minister of Health Olivier Véran on Monday April 6.

Of these additional deaths, 605 occurred in hospitals and the rest in nursing homes (accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people) or in medico-social establishments, he specified during a press conference.

As of Sunday, the daily number of hospital deaths fell to 357 from 441 on Saturday and 588 on Friday.

The number of serious cases in intensive care reaches 7,072, against 6,978 on Sunday, an increase of 94 cases against 140 cases the day before.

The total number of contamination cases confirmed by PCR test amounted to 98,010, against 92,839 on Sunday, taking into account the tests carried out in hospitals and in nursing homes.

Olivier Véran announced a vast screening operation intended in particular for medico-social establishments.
