The Algerian authorities directed the broadcasting of the Noble Qur’an through loudspeakers in mosques, weeks after the decision to suspend group and Friday prayers, as part of measures to counter the Corona virus.

In a statement, the Ministry of Religious Affairs said that "in response to urgent requests by citizens to broadcast the Holy Qur’an through loudspeakers in mosques, we direct imams to broadcast the Holy Qur’an recordings through loudspeakers in mosques half an hour before noon prayer."

The ministry asked its managers across the governorates to coordinate with the governors to set the daily timing of the Holy Quran broadcast, in excess or decrease of half an hour per day, or the days it is broadcast.

The decision did not include a date for the implementation of the decision, but sources from the Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed to Anatolia that it will begin on Tuesday.

On March 17th, the Algerian authorities issued a decision to suspend Friday and congregational prayers in all mosques of the country, with the broadcast of the five daily prayers, as part of measures to counter the spread of the Corona virus.

After the decision, calls were made by citizens and activists through social networks, to broadcast awareness lessons about the commitment to the home stone, as well as the Qur'an through the mosque speakers to spread reassurance, after a state of anxiety left behind by the spread of the virus.

By Monday, Algeria had recorded 173 deaths, as well as 90 patients recovering, out of 1,423 confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

As of Monday evening, the number of Corona sufferers worldwide exceeded one million and 329 thousand, of whom more than 73 thousand died, while more than 277 thousand recovered.
