More than 600 people died in covid-19 in New York state over the past 24 hours, and the death toll is now up to 3,556 people.

2,624 of the deaths have occurred in New York City, and Governor Andrew Cuomo says the worst is not over. A peak will come about anywhere between four and 14 days.

- Parts of me would like to be at the top now and just grab it, but other parts think it is good that we are not there yet because we are not prepared enough at the top. he says at a press conference.

- It's only been 30 days since our first fall, it feels like a lifetime ago.

85,000 volunteers

To cope with the crisis, Mayor Bill de Blasio has said that until May the metropolis will need an additional 45,000 people in health care.

"To everyone who is not already participating in this fight, we need you," de Blasio said on Saturday.

Early Saturday, New York sent an emergency text message to all of the city's 8.6 million residents, calling for medical personnel. Authorities say around 85,000 volunteers have responded to it and other emergency calls and signed up to help the state so badly affected.

President Trump has also responded to the emergency call, stating that he will send one thousand militants to the city.

"New York is the worst of the worst areas," he says.

Trump says those sent to New York will be followed by more, who should be able to be sent to other corona-affected parts of the country.

- They (the military) go into a war, a battle for which they have not prepared.

"We cross the mountain"

Despite the rising death tolls, Andrew Cuomo was able to bring news to his news conference at his press conference.

Two out of three hospitalized in the state have recovered sufficiently to be able to leave their sick beds.

- We will get through this, we will cross over to the other side of this mountain. But to do that, between then and now, we have to do whatever it takes, he says.
