• Crash that elbow. From the emoji to say hello in the times of coronavirus to the app to ration your toilet paper

In recent days, many companies have decided to modify their logos to raise awareness in society about the necessary measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic worldwide.

Thus, companies like McDonald's, Audi, Coca-Cola, Mercedes or Volkswagen have changed their image to send a message in favor, above all, of social distance, the obligation to keep us isolated at home. A campaign by McDonald's in Brazil separated its mythical golden arches, Coca-Cola spread its letters in an advertisement in Times Square and Audi or Mercedes marked distances in their logos.

In EL MUNDO we wanted to join the initiative and we proposed to Cruz Novillo, designer of the original logo of our head in 1989, to come up with a new version for these times. The result is up here and on the front page of the newspaper. "We have played with the idea that you are THE WORLD and the world has not only distanced itself, but has become empty," they explain from the Madrid studio. "In the geometric construction, we have redrawn the sphere by slightly thickening the lines, so that the 'invisible circle' is better perceived." That invisible circle that has us all trapped.

QUARAN, A QUARANTINE PET

It is called Quaran and is the first pet in the quarantine. As it could not be otherwise, the invention comes from Japan, the country of pets and the truth is that it was thought even before the coronavirus pandemic. The Quaran character was created by the Quarantine Information Office of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare before the outbreak, but it is now that his powers have been launched. The mascot, with its shield, its protective glasses and its Q-shaped tail, can be seen these days in the country's airports.

THE APPLAUSE

'Clap2thank' is a web game developed by the Wildbytes agency and altruistically illustrated by Kiki Ljung that allows you to measure through the microphone of your computer or the phone the amount and intensity of the applause that we give to the toilets every afternoon. The website, which has already counted more than 115,000 applauses, has up to a ranking to decide who is the best applause in the world.

I chose a bad day to quit smoking

Despite the fact that doctors have warned, for obvious reasons, that smokers are more likely to die if they get Covid-19, tobacco sales have not decreased in recent weeks. Quite the contrary: the consumption of traditional cigarettes has rebounded. In the United States, sales grew 1.1% at the end of March, although experts suspect that it is not due to a real increase in smoking but to an accumulation of stocks at home. Sales of alcoholic beverages have seen a similar increase since the pandemic broke out worldwide.

FASHION MASKS

Mask sales have soared 10,000% over last year and luxury brands, of course, weren't going to miss out on the opportunity. Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton Men's Creative or Collection Director and Off-White Director, has announced the launch of eight new models from his mask collection. The ones he put up for sale last year are already sold out. Fendi and Vuitton also have theirs, so the one who is not fashion in the pandemic is because he does not want to. Of course, they are worth more than 100 euros and Health, by the way, does not recommend them.

THE RETURN OF MANU CHAO

The elusive Manu Chao has reappeared these days from the room in which he is confined and with a series of online performances that he has christened 'Coronarictus Smily Killer Sessions'.
