France today announced that the overall death toll from the emerging coronavirus will rise from 7,560 to 8,078.


The director of the French General Administration of Health, Jerome Salmon, said in a press conference on Sunday evening, that the number of deceased patients in hospitals and homes for the elderly in the country rose by 518 cases and reached the point of 8078 cases after they were at the level of 7560 yesterday evening.


Salmon explained that the number of hospitalized deceased patients increased by 357 cases, and reached 5,889 deaths.


This number represents the lowest rate of increase in the number of deaths recorded in hospitals for several days, as this outcome Friday reached 588 cases and Saturday, 441, while the number was higher than that during the previous days of the week.


In addition, Salmon pointed out that 2189 deaths due to the virus had been recorded in homes for the elderly since March 1.


The French health official also reported that 1873 new cases of "COVID-19" were recorded during the past 24 hours in the country's hospitals, noting that the total number of injured people rose to 70,478 cases.
