" There are 11 dead and four injured, " said Captain Alvaro Farfan. This local fire official said on the Caracol chain that the accident had occurred in a coal mine that was operating legally, without specifying the circumstances of the explosion.

The victims were employees who continued to work during the health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and whose activity was excluded from the decree requiring general confinement in Colombia.

The National Mining Agency confirmed on Twitter the report announced by the firefighters and ordered the suspension of " underground coal mining activities " in Cucunuba. On Friday, six other miners were killed in a similar accident at a coal deposit in San Cayetano, in the northeast of the country.
