Today, the Israeli occupation police arrested the Jerusalem governor of the Palestinian Authority, Adnan Ghaith, from his home in Silwan, east of occupied Jerusalem, for interrogation about "illegal" activity in the city.

The police spokesman confirmed the arrest, and said that Ghaith "was arrested this morning for engaging in Palestinian activity in Jerusalem, which is illegal."

A video circulated on social media showed a number of Israeli soldiers waiting for the governor outside his house, as they put protective masks. Ghaith appeared outside the house, wearing white plastic gloves.

The lawyer for the governor, Rami Ghaith, said that the latter is under investigation, and it is likely that the reason for his arrest revolves around the activities of the governor's office in the city related to the new Corona virus.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 and subsequently annexed it, in a move that was not recognized by the international community. It prohibits any sovereign manifestations of the Palestinian Authority in East Jerusalem, and Israel considers all of Jerusalem its undivided capital.

On Friday morning, the Israeli police arrested the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs for the Palestinian Authority, Fadi Al-Hadmi, on suspicion of carrying out "government actions by the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem in light of the Corona crisis," according to a police statement.
