A drop in player salaries as envisioned by the Premier League, to offset the financial consequences of the coronavirus, could result in 200 million pounds (227 million euros) less in tax revenue for the British budget, warned the English Players Union (PFA) Saturday.

"All Premier League players want and will play their part in making significant financial contributions in these unprecedented times," the union said in a statement as talks are being held with Premier League clubs over a cut. or a deferral of player salaries.

"But the proposed 30% drop in wages over a 12-month period would amount to a total of more than £ 500 million in wage cuts and a loss of more than £ 200 million in tax contributions to the government," says the association of professional players.

"What would be the effect of this loss of revenue for the government on the National Health Service?", Continues the PFA.

If no agreement has yet been found in England, Spain, the players of FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid have accepted discounts of 70% while the stars of the Italian champions of Juventus will receive a reduced amount for the next four months.
