A couple in Chhattisgarh state in central India named "Corona" and "Covid" their newborn twins, amid a complete closure across the country due to the Corona pandemic.

The twins, male and female, were born in a government hospital in Raipur, the state capital, on March 27, two days after the full closure took place, which disrupted daily life.

The couple said, in a telephone interview with the German news agency (dpa), today, Saturday, that the two names remind them of the difficulties faced by the two before the birth of the twins in hospital.

Pretty Verma, 27, who is the mother of the twins, said they found no help, as their family members were unable to reach Raipur City because of the full closure.

"With the movement of the vehicles stopped, we arrived at the hospital late at night after much suffering, and since the birth took place after these difficulties, we wanted the names to be remembered and unique."

Vinay Verma, the father, said: "Besides the two names are beautiful, since Corona means a crown in the Latin language, we also want to end the concerns about the two names and the people focus on hygiene and health care."

India is undergoing a three-week full shutdown until April 14, and public transport services have been halted with strict orders to stay at home for India's 1.3 billion people.

The number of cases of corona in India rose to nearly three thousand, while the number of deaths reached 68 cases.
