Updated data in Italy and worldwide

The head of the Civil Protection, Angelo Borrelli, communicates the latest data on the epidemic during the daily press point

A total of 88,274 patients are ill in Italy, with an increase compared to yesterday of 2,886. On Friday the increase had been 2,339. The total number of infected people - including the victims and the healed - is 124,632.

20,996 people recovered, 1,238 more than yesterday. Yesterday the increase in the healed was 1,480.

15,362 deaths, with an increase of 681 compared to yesterday. Friday the increase had been 766. "It is a steadily decreasing number: on March 26 there were almost a thousand," comments the head of the Civil Protection.

Intensive care patients are falling, it is the first time
There is the first drop in ICU admissions since the beginning of the emergency. 3,994 are hospitalized, 74 fewer than yesterday. Of these, 1,326 are in Lombardy. Of the 88,274 patients overall, 29,010 are then hospitalized with symptoms - 269 more than yesterday - and 55,270 are those in home isolation.

"Today for the first time we have a very important figure. The number of ICU patients decreases by 74 and it is important news because it allows our hospitals to breathe. It is the first negative value since we started the emergency management" said Borrelli.

Css: encouraging data but danger not avoided
"From March 27 to today we have gone from more than 120 accesses to intensive care to a negative balance of 74. We have 74 fewer patients in intensive care, and even the deceased have fallen from 970 on 27 to 680 today. strong message that this should not be read in the least as a message that we have now passed the critical phase, a danger that has escaped: we have not yet escaped anything. What has been put in place has served to contain the epidemic spread and reduce the number of our fellow citizens who have died and those forced to resort to intensive care "said the president of the Superior Council of Health, Franco Locatelli.
