BFMTV apologized to viewers on Saturday for "totally inappropriate" remarks made by one of its journalists during the broadcast of the national tribute in China to the victims of the coronavirus.

"They bury Pokémon," we could hear a person whispering Saturday morning on the channel antenna, during a sequence all in images, showing the meditation of Chinese leaders and the day of national mourning organized throughout China in memory of fellow Covid-19 compatriots.

BFMTV and BFM Business columnist Emmanuel Lechypre then presented his mea culpa for having made these comments, which sparked thousands of reactions on social networks.

"This morning during the broadcast of the tribute to the victims in China, I allowed myself a totally inappropriate expression, thinking that the microphones were closed. It was totally inappropriate, I am very sorry for it and I renew my apologies", he said in particular on the news channel.

The chain and its manager Marc-Olivier Fogiel have also apologized "following the involuntary broadcast of remarks totally out of place on set this morning".
