It is noted that 28 UN member states have become co-sponsors of this Declaration.

The initiative, in particular, recognized the leading role of WHO in combating the pandemic, the agreement of states to collaborate with each other and with WHO, including to develop options for controlling the spread and treatment of COVID-19.

In addition, the document called for assistance to the most affected states, especially developing countries, to abandon trade wars and apply unilateral sanctions, which bypass the UN Security Council.

“As you know, the consensus adoption of the document introduced by us did not work. This was hindered by Ukraine, Georgia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the EU, ”the Russian diplomatic mission said in a statement.

Diplomats regretted that some states could not "give up their politicized approaches and interests."

“We would be very interested in hearing and seeing in writing the logic and arguments for blocking our draft Declaration by the EU, the US and the UK,” the report said.

Earlier it was reported that Russia submitted to the UN General Assembly an initiative to adopt a declaration of solidarity in the fight against coronavirus infection COVID-19.
